About the Event

This High School level class will focus on the development and creative process of designing and implementing a public art piece for a client. Students will experience both artistic and business perspectives while working in a collaborative environment with industry professionals such as Colossal Media and other guest artists.

To start, classes will focus on the development phase. Students will learn how to respond to a creative brief and conduct client interviews to gain insight and identify constraints and research. Using this information students will begin developing multiple design concepts.

Students will then learn how to confidently present their concepts to the client in the presentation phase. After client review, students will receive feedback and additional direction for the chosen design. The class will then begin to collaborate on the final mural design as a team.

After final approval, the second part of the class will focus on the production phase, taking the design to the wall! This will include learning to create scaled production drawings, planning a supply and material list, and techniques for large-scale production, such as blocking, masking, and grids, The whole class will participate and supervise in the actual painting of the final mural design.

This class is designed to provide real-world experience as a professional artist for hire, which sometimes involves balancing creative freedom with fulfilling client needs and goals.
