About the Event

Don’t miss the upcoming installment of Community Works!

What does it take to build a reciprocal food system — one that gives as much as it takes? Join us during Climate Week as we dig into one of the most pressing challenges of our time: reimagining our food systems to center human and planetary health.

We’ll learn about what’s happening on the ground and in our communities with experts from multiple facets of the food system — from community organizers, food waste innovators, and farmers alike. The event will wrap with a collaborative ideation on actionable, reciprocal solutions that bring us closer to the equitable future we all envision.

Moderated by Food & Bev Innovation Strategist Reema Kakaday (@reemakakaday), our panelists include Yemi Amu, Founder & Director of Oko Farms (@okofarms), Sanjana Sekhar (@sanj___), Climate Storyteller & Founder of GARMI, Sarah Teich (@sarah.rose.teich) of Produce Parties (@produceparties), and Asmeret Berhe-Lumax (@asmeretasmeret), Founder of One Love Community Fridge (@onelovecommunityfridge).

Together we’ll explore key questions like: how is the responsibility shared across corporations, individuals, and systems to create this better future? What makes it so hard to participate in compost or even recycling? Why is it so hard for everyone to have access to fresh food? What solutions are coming out of community organizations?

This conversation will be held alongside the Lighthouse of Moth, an art installation by artist Meaghan Elyse (@meaghan_elyse) in which textiles and waste create a new kind of imaginary shelter and gathering place. The spiral structure hopes to foster creative conversations around various ecological and political themes.

Doors will open at 6PM; the conversation will begin at 6:45PM and last about an hour. Tickets are suggested donation of $15 that will be split evenly across Oko Farms and the ELM Foundation, but none will be turned away for lack of funds.

PLEASE RSVP - SO THAT WE ARE SURE TO HAVE SUFFICIENT SEATING
